Description of the school

General Information

Lyuben Karavelov School is a secondary school which is situated in Koprivshtitsa, a town of 2500 inhabitants in the mountains of Bulgaria. The school has approximately 200 students, from age 7 to 18, and 26 teachers who are specialist in various fields.

The school has experience and expertise in dealing with diversity due to the disadvantaged background of the students, different competence level in every class and children with special needs.

The vision for the school is to offer collaborative forms of working and to fully support students on their way to successful professionals and active citizens in 21st century. This is partly achieved by working together with the municipality and by including parents in school life and decision-making processes where possible and appropriate. Cooperation between students, parents, school and the community is an important part of every day school life.

Professional development of the teachers is a top priority, seeking to implement innovative and engaging practices that will improve the outcomes of our students. To achieve our goals, we believe that we need to encourage our students to communicate in a different environment, to treasure the nature and better understand it’s processes which will build them up as active European citizens.

Communication and direct contacts with children their age would help them see different perspectives, practice foreign languages, understand other cultures, try new foods, and open their doors to treasure a different new world.
